CES certainly didn’t put the XDA Developers forum users off from their usual tinkering. Ever since first getting jailbroken, the Nook Color has had plenty of hacker’s attention, mainly getting Android and Angry Birds (and then potentially blowing up). Now, hackers have moved their focus from Android to Ubuntu Linux.
XDA Developers member “Devastatorx” undertook the hack, and put a full set of instructions up on the forum for all to try. Essentially, his inspiration came from the Ubuntu hack on the Nexus One. To get Ubuntu, simply download the necessary files for your (already jailbroken) Nook Color and follow the short coding instructions.
However, the hack is still a little green, and as Devastatorx says, it’s still “a little laggy”. Though alongside other hackers on the forum, a fix for any bugs, coding problems and coding alternatives are being made.
Looking at the screenshot Devastatorx posted, it looks like Ubuntu makes a pretty successful operating system for a small tablet device.
